What matters is the basis
UNAI REGLERO
Tarragone, january 2013
Coloured video, 3mn03.
Printed photograph 47,5x70cm and photomontage, 47,5x70cm.
What matters is the basis is an art project consisting in two complementary actions : a piece of video art and a big painting in public space.
What matters is the basis refers to the current context in which this neighborhood is living, when, in the context of the crisis, the state withdraws investment in public services, together with new laws restricting social services for the most vulnerable, such as immigrants. These decisions directly affect a neighborhood struck by unemployment and social problems.
In the process of the work have participated all the team of Expeditions, children and educators from Casal l’Amic. The aerial photography of the painting was taken by Stefano.
Campo Claro – A spoken portrait of a stigmatised district
Tarragona, Enero 2013
Color video 37mn49.
This documentary, carried out like a research project, contains interviews with people from the city of Tarragona and people from the Campo Claro district, conducted with the aim of discovering the collective imagination around the district and the stereotypes formed about it. This documentary paints a portrait of the district (without showing the area itself) by exploring verbal and non-verbal language forms, social and cultural barriers which emerge through the “them vs. us” division, built on stereotypical representations that transform into a type of knowledge, by including the status of unquestionable truth in popular perception.
I conducted interviews with Nolwen Tröel-Sauton and Gabriela Córdoba Vivas. Children from the Casal l’Amic also participated, in particular Nayra.
